I hugged my FAIL WHALE shirt. Best shirt I had ever had. EVER. Look, it had just gotten me a free dinner. I bit my lip as I said my favorite foods, I never really liked asking for things, but they all seemed so willing and excited about it, and of course we'd all be sharing it, so I went ahead and made my order, then being whisked up to a bedroom by Sonia and Edmund. She guarded the door while Edmund and I talked pleasantly to pass the time. I didn't mind. He was fun to talk to. We would pause concernedly at times as we listened to shouts, the clanging and crashing of various materials, explosions, flurried movement, excitement in general, and - at one point - the sound of someone vomiting. By the time Willow poked her head through the door with her gentle, "Chaaaaaarlotte! Come out, my darling!" we were both very worried. We were also eager to see what was downstairs.
It was beautiful and magnificent. The gold and the yellow, the slowly flying birds and the funny little rabbits in the wall paper, the sweet little orbs of light that floated about, the cushiness of the chairs, and the amazing flaming butterflies filled me with elation and delight. My friends looked haggard, but satisfied with themselves, and I exclaimed my thanks.
"IT'S SIMPLY SO AMAZING!!!" I shouted, hugging anyone I could find.
They smiled and said it was nothing, though I was pretty sure it wasn't.
Then, there was the food. Oh my goodness, there was the food. This part was so... appallingly wonderful that there are barely words. I put a stuffed mushroom in my mouth. I almost cried. They were my favorite, tasting so delicious and... oh, just magnificent! I ate everything else lost in my own little world of pleasure, wracked with giggles of delight almost to the point of not being able to chew. My friends looked over at me with amused concern on their faces sometimes, but soon they were busy with their own giggling.
My parents have always told me that I am easily pleased/amused. I suppose that must be true, but that's absolutely fine with me. It makes everything in the world so much more delightful. All I know is that I'd make an absolutely horrible food critic. I think that frozen lasagna is heavenly, and it makes my mother laugh.
I couldn't stop complimenting Willow's ribs. The broccoli salad made my cheeks hurt with smiling. All in all, I barely made it out of this little misadventure without crying with my euphoria.
ooc/ I realize most of this post is about the food. But seriously, this is a very important aspect of the story to me. FOOD IS IMPORTANT. And lovely and wonderful and sweet and... |DD cheesecake...
It was quite fun to try and wipe that strange but delightfully zany cake off of Will's face, watch him squirm at the trial, and eventually push the boys on upstairs for us girls to slow down the party together downstairs. With a huge grin on my face, I sat on a pillow next to a wall, leaned against it, swathed myself in my Longhorns blanket, and ate my icecream happily with a fork. Trust me, it's the best way to eat icecream. Try it sometime and you will have to admit that I am right.
So I fell asleep at about 2am, watching people sleeping in the dark as I slowly drifted off myself. Oh, tomorrow! Tomorrow was the trainride! The Night! The thestrals! The hall with it's candles and it's clear night sky! The feast! The song! The happy bedtime with my fellow Hufflepuffs!
The goodbye. I tried not to think about that. Nope, I just let my dreariness take me to a dream all about being an FBI agent who knew karate, trying to defeat the evil empire's minions one ninja at a time.

Sorry I didn't change the date sooner, I wasn't paying attention and didn't notice that there was a third page. I thought that we were stuck after Jin Ah's post on the second page, as I kept refreshing it and there were no changes. It was only until midnight last night that I noticed we had more pages, and I got to have much fun reading all of the comments. Anyways, I've changed the date now, so don't worry.

It was an interesting way to wake up, I must say, finding cake all over your face. I blinked sleepily and took a lick at the frosting. Not too bad. But still, cake. "Oh dear." I flopped back down on my pillow, I bit too tiredto be overly concerned with this at the moment.
"Someone's going to pay," I heard Jin Ah mutter darkly, and I had to smile. Again?
But soon we managed to get all the cake off my face (thank you, yet again, the convenience of magic!) and were soon off in Sako's car.
"Did you sleep well last night?" asked Mrs. Turgus.
We all sat there a bit uncomfortably with these funny little smiles on our faces. None of us knew what to say, really.
Mrs. Turgus chuckled. "I thought so."
I think I slept most of the way there, though everyone around me was being very excitable.
"I could have just flown there," Will said, who was sitting right next to his broom.
"What about the muggles?" Jin Ah pointed out.
"That's an easy one to solve! Just use Edmund's cloak!"
"You know, it is my cloak, Will, I might not want to give you completely free access to it all the time."
"Edmund, I thought we were friends."
"Shut up, Will," said Sebastian, yawning. "It's too early in the morning. Maybe when we're seventh years and at the top of the school and practically have licences to be stupid we can make our grand entrance and surprise everyone. But for today, sit tight."
Everyone could tell Will was already planning the "grand entrance," as he was being curiously quiet, and the rest of the car right was being pretty silent as well, if not a bit anxious.
We'd reached it, the little brick column between nine and ten. One by one, we pushed ourselves and our suitcases through, and I was about to when I heard a shout behind me.
"Elizabeth!"
I turned around. It was Mum, Dad, Will, Genevieve, and Genevieve's trunk, all ready to go in after me.
"Let's go on through!" I said, took my little brother's hand, and I ran at the wall, happily fearless of it smashing my skull open. Soon after came my sister and my parents; they had done this before in the previous three years before seeing me off.
We were in front of the bright red train, it's happy colors and wistful getaway apparent on everyone's excitable faces. Something was always a bit different about crowds in the wizarding world than in the muggle one; everyone seemed to be a lot more excited, energized, even more happy. Anything was an adventure when magic was around! Too true, too true.
My dad had on his red T-shirt saying "The Spanish Alliance: Expected by NOBODY since 1970," I still had that FAIL WHALE shirt on, and Gen was wearing her favorite Cheshire Cat shirt. We'd change into our robes during the train ride. It was funny to think that she'd be wearing the black Hogwarts tie, but soon that would be changed. It was interesting to wonder about which house she'd be in....
Mum already had tears on her cheeks.
"Oh, Mum, please don't cry...." I consoled.
"How can you expect me not to cry when both of my daughters are going to be away from me another year?"
It made me want to cry. "Mum...."
"Oh, I'm going to miss you so much," she drew me close, and then my sister, and kissed both of our faces over and over again.
"We'll miss you, too," I said sadly.
"Yeah." She drew us back again and studied us closely. "Have fun, okay?"
We nodded, smiling half-heartedly. "We will."
Then Dad gave us a big hug, kissing the tops of our heads.
"I'll miss you, too," he said. "But have lots of fun, alright? This school, no matter how long it keeps you away, always seems to be good for Elizabeth. I think it'll be about the same for you." He was talking to Genevieve, who I knew was trying to be brave. She nodded.
Then he turned to me. "Can I trust you not to go out stealing toilet seats from the teachers' bathroom?" he asked me solemnly. I giggled. "Yeah, Dad."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm pretty sure. If ever the urge comes over me, I shall pinch myself, and that'll set me right."
"Good," he smiled. Mum put her arm through his, still crying.
"We love you!"
"We love you, too!"
We were about to turn when I suddenly remembered Will.
"Ooh! Will!" I went and bent down in front of him, looking into those unfairly gorgeous dark brown eyes in order to grab his attention. Suddenly, looking at me like this, he seemed to realize what was happening again.
"I don't want you to leave!" he bawled.
"Oh, Will!" I gave him a big hug and let him cry on my shoulder for a bit. "Do you know what I'm going to do?" I set him upright again and wiped the tears from his eyes.
"What?"
"I'm going to write you a special letter, just for you, every day. And I'm going to take pictures and send you little souveniers. How's that sound?"
He nodded, still pouting a bit. "Good."
"Now where's that smile of yours?"
"He quickly showed it to me."
"Good."
So Gen and I went off, off towards the train and our destinies.
Geneveive quickly found Ellie, they went off to their own compartment, and I sat down in a compartment with Will, Jin Ah, Vi, Rachel, Edmund, and Sebastian. Vi got our our traditional Scrabble game (luckily we knew more spells now, so we were able to keep the table still this time) and we started to play, me instantly showing off my immense lack of skill.
ooc/ I think this would be a very good spot for the antagonist person Jin Ah was talking about us having coming in.

(does my brother count as an antagonist?? xDD_
Dressed in my black robes with my slytherin tie, black boots and rainbow socks peaking out from under, I was a sight to see. Well, for muggles at least. When we arrived at the train station, I immediately broke from the group to go looking for my brother. Rightly so, since I found him trying to push his stuff through a column between platforms 7 and 8.
Trying to hold back my laughter, I approached him. "Hey there, how's it going?"
"This... stupid gate... is broken!" He groaned through heaves toward the pillar.
"Maybe because you're heading for the nonexistent platform 7 and 3/4. Good luck, but I'm heading over to the Hogwarts train," I practically sang, taking my stuff and wheeling it over to gate 9, before walking through the wall following Charlotte.
A few people later, my brother also emerged from the gate, scowling and casting me the evil eye periodically. I rolled my eyes, used to his behavior as I've had to live with it for the last 15 years. None of my parents were coming, I didn't expect them to either, so I left the rest of my friends to say their goodbyes and went to find a car on the train where a couple of people could sit with me.
As I was moving through the hallway of the train, I stumbled into Aeris Jackson. A slytherin like me; tall, blond hair, and always smiling. Although, I actually found his smiles rather creepy (I wonder if that's why a lot of people don't like me? Are my smiles creepy too?).
"Oh, excuse me, Kris," he smiled; I definitely called that one. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, just fine," I replied. It was silent for a moment, and awkward. "Well, I'm going to find a seat now. See you around, I guess." I laughed awkwardly and sidestepped passed Aeris, and then past his older brother, Fritz, who looked as if he hadn't even noticed me. After scooting past them and a group of first years, I stepped inside the area where I had ridden with my friends last year. Of course, we took up about 4 or 5 different rooms all together, but we switched seats so often I forgot who I had started out sitting with in the first place.
So, I settled in and pulled out a book. I might as well read a few chapters while I waited for everyone else to get on the train.

I didn't know what everyone else was complaining about. Throughout the summer on a regular basis, I had fallen asleep at ten-thirty and woken up at seven. This day had been no different. While everyone else stayed up until ungodly hours of the night doing who knows whats, I had snuggled up under my comforter, hugged my pillow, and promptly fell asleep at ten-forty-five Post meridiem. I was up at seven-thirty (I've always been an early riser). I wandered into the kitchen, but I was far too lazy to make anything so I just drank a glass of milk. I decided just sitting around wasn't going to accomplish much, so I found my trunk and changed into my muggle clothes (jeans and my Ada Lovelace t-shirt*), since we were changing into our Hogwarts robes on the train, though I stuck my wand into the pocket of my jeans (front, mind you). I wondered about how we were all going to fit on the train. There were quite a lot of us. I supposed we would fall into our friend group subdivisions. One by one, my friends awoke (though I did never actually figure out where that cake was from that woke up Charlotte), though they were much less rested and energetic than me. Some of the people (read: not Will) made breakfast in the form of pancakes, which were actually quite good, despite being made by half-dead, sleep-deprived teenagers. Everyone else was far too tired to engage in any shenanigans (thank goodness) so we ate there while reminiscing about Hogwarts and how much fun we were going to have, what classes we were taking, what we thought about the teachers, etc. By the time we finished our breakfast, it was about ten-thirty. Everyone else decided it was high time to get the luggage trunks into Sako's parents' car and leave for King's Cross. They apparently had already placed an Undetectable Extension Charm on both the inside of the car and the boot so we and all of our belongings would be able to be fitted comfortably inside. There was a loud chorus of " Wingardium leviosa!"'s, followed by a parade of floating trunks and their owners outside to the car. Sako's mother was already waiting for us in the driver's seat as we fitted our trunks into the boot and piled in with our pets into the car. Despite the large number of people (and animals), it was actually quite roomy and comfortable inside, with lots of room to stretch. After some conversations about lack of sleep and grand entrances and Hogwarts shenanigans, we reached King's Cross. Everyone jumped out of the car excitedly and the boys helped us load our trunks onto carts (no more magic, since we were in a Muggle area) organized by by our friend subdivisions (JinAh, Rachel, Charlotte, and I; Sako, Saki, and Kris; Katie and Kenna; Laura, Willow, Sonia; Will, Sebastian, and Edmund), but of course we were going to move around and socialise during the trip. We wheeled our carts until we came to the brick barrier between Platform 9 and Platform 10. A few people's parents had come to see them off, but I had already had my good-by with my parents at home. They were used to it by now, and anyways, I would be back for the winter holidays. One by one, we made our way through the brick barrier until we saw a sign telling us that, indeed, we had made it to Platform 9 3/4. We were able to levitate our trunks into the Hogwarts Express without much problem. Rachel, JinAh, Charlotte, and I found a compartment near the middle of the train and placed our trunks on the luggage racks above us. Everyone else found their respective compartments. Excitement was building in all of us. We conversed excitedly about classes ("I really can't wait for Transfiguration and Arithmancy~!") and schedules ("Oh, I hope Hufflepuff doesn't get Potions with Ravenclaw again...") and even the Sorting Ceremony ("I hope we get some really awesome first-years in Ravenclaw!"). Once the train started moving, the boys joined us in our compartment and we played a friendly game of Scrabble (enchanted so that this time the tiles would actually stay where they were supposed to, even when the train lurched from side to side). We had just finished our first game, when suddenly, the lights in the compartment flickered, before going out completely. The sound of train wheels clicking over tracks ceased, and the train ground to a halt. " Lumos." Apparently, all of us had been thinking the same thing because all of a sudden, seven wandlights came on. "I'm going to see what's going on," said Will, in an uncharacteristically serious tone. He stepped out of the compartment, closing the door behind him. Suddenly, the temperature of the compartment suddenly dropped by at least a few degrees, as if signalling the appearance of a ghost on one of those Muggle shows about supernatural happenings. Charlotte opened her mouth, as if to say something, but the eerie silence was pierced by a high-pitched scream. Immediately afterwards, a breathless Will rushed into our compartment and slammed the sliding door closed, beads of sweat on his brow. Normally, at this point, Sebastian and/or Edmund would have made a snarky comment about Will's girlish scream, but frankly, everyone was just too cold, frightened, and anxious. It felt like a scene out of a bad horror movie, and the audience was screaming at us to get away while we still could. Instinctively, I grasped my wand. Everyone else did the same. We sat in silence for a while. Finally, Charlotte broke the silence. "... So, what exactly was out there, Will?" "... One of the most horrible things in the world. A large cloaked figure with bony hands, and instead of a face, a large gaping hole with metal lips. And when I looked at it, I felt as if I'd never be happy again," Will replied. From his demeanor and tone, we knew that he was serious. We sat in more silence, contemplating, as if the cold had frozen the voice in our throats. "A Dementor," Sebastian said at last, quietly, in a voice of disbelief. "What's that?" whispered Charlotte. "A Dark creature," Rachel began quietly, remembering from her DADA textbooks which she had bought extra copies of, but kept safe from Professor Achilles. "They feed off of human happiness and can suck the happiness out of an environment, creating a frozen, depressed area. They can be considered the personification of depression, as they cause humans in the area to feel as if they could never feel happiness again. They are also used in Azkaban, a high security wizard prison, as guards. But their worst feature is that they can perform the Dementor's Kiss. It's the wizarding world's form of capital punishment. A fate worse than death. Their souls are sucked out from their bodies and they are left as an empty, unfeeling shell." "... That's terrible," Charlotte said, horrified. "Is there any way to deter them?" Rachel nodded. "A Patronus Charm. But it's extremely difficult to perform, even in its non-corporeal form. In its non-corporeal form, only wisps or shields of silver light are produced, which the Dementor will feed off of, instead of you. However, a corporeal Patronus will take the form of an animal that represents the wizard or witch in some way, usually taking the same form as their Animagus form, and will actively repel Dementors." Suddenly, the weight of the coldness in the air was lifted and the train began to move again. "Oh good, we're moving again. And it's warming up," mentioned JinAh. "We should probably change now," I noted. "So the boys should go back to their compartment and we'll change in ours." Everyone agreed, and after the boys filed out, we changed into our Hogwarts robes. After changing, we were all wearing our respective house colors, Rachel, JinAh, and I wearing black robes, Ravenclaw ties and sweater vests, black skirts, and black shoes, and Charlotte wearing the same thing, just with a Hufflepuff tie and sweater vest, rather than Ravenclaw ones, naturally. I looked out the window. It was getting darker. It had already been early evening when the Dementor came, but now, it was as if someone had taken a large paintbrush and brushed over the sky in dark blue. The scenery had changed from sparsely populated fields and meadows to the occasional house and then to a populated town. "We're at Hogsmeade!" JinAh said excitedly. Slowly, the train came to a stop and without the loud wheels and engine, one could hear excited chattering amongst the students, though some voices were still obviously shaken by the sudden Dementor visit. "Please leave all luggage and pets on the train. They will be taken to the castle separately. Thank you," a loud voice boomed throughout the train. A few first-years hesitantly moved out of their compartments, but all of the other students hurried out of the train and turned Hogsmeade Station into a bustling, semi-chaotic mess. "First years! First years this way!" a deep voice boomed from the other side of Hogsmeade Station. I recognized it as the voice of Silas D'Orey, the Keeper of the Keys at Hogwarts, taking the first years on their ceremonial boat rides across the Black Lake. Everyone else hurried towards the Hogwarts carriages that pulled themselves. Our compartment group found a carriage and boarded. The boys found us, but there wasn't enough room to fit them, so they took the carriage next to ours with some other boys in our year. "I do hope Genvieve's okay..." Charlotte mentioned worriedly. "That Dementor incident must have scared her... I'll have to tell her that the train rides aren't always like that." "Don't worry," insisted JinAh. "She had Ellie with her, and Ellie seems like she can stand up to anything." We agreed and spent the rest of the carriage ride discussing why the Dementors might have boarded the train and what we should do about them if they weren't brought up by the Headmaster. Suddenly, the carriage stopped. We stepped out of the carriage and entered the Great Hall. It was just how I remembered it. Same enchanted ceiling, same enchanted, floating candles same long House tables. JinAh, Rachel, and I took our seats at the Ravenclaw table with Will, while Charlotte took her seat with Saki and Edmund. A loud murmuring spread across the room, undoubtedly about the train incident. Then, the grand doors of the Great Hall opened once more, to reveal a group of anxious, nervous first-years, among them Genevieve and Ellie. The Sorting was about to begin. * Found here. I don't actually own it, but if I did, I would wear it everywhere. xD

The trip to the train station was odd. Most people were asleep but the ones who weren't did odd things. First they drew on people's faces, and after I drew on Kenna's and said Will did it, Will was quite unhappy, and missing a little of his eyebrow. When we crossed into the train once again the sight amazed me. Such a large train to be hiding from the muggle world. I am happy I am in this world, that explains why I lose some races. Besides that I can be amazing! We play scrabble on the game, but after a while something weird happens. It gets dark and cold. It makes my heart skip a beat but I want to look strong. I puff out my chest and talk to the group. (THIS IS AFTER CONVO ABOVE)
"Will, Me, and Kenna will go. I know the patronus charm, and Kenna knows some amazing light spells, and well Will is a male and we need a male to sacrafice if the need arises." I say the last part to lighten the mood, but nothing can be lighened up, not with the soul taking. "No, you shouldn't" "Yes we need to." I say and then I nod to Kenna, she lights her wand and after a small spell she makes a hovering ball of fire. I nod to will and we continue down the hall. we look around the other compartments but they are tightly closed with faces peering down. "Hey...HEY!" A voice yells, we turn to see an older boy. "Yes?" Will asks innocently "Get back into your compartment, this is just a minor inconvince." "No its not, its a dementor." Will says "Shut up," the boy says and he pushes us back, but not after Kenna ducks under him and runs toward the noise. I follow and the boy yells at us to stop. "Kenna?" "Yeah?" she asks "I am kinda scared, i haven't fought a dementor before. I know I can summon a patronus but..." "It will be alright." "Yeah, it will be fine." a feminine voice says, I turn in suprise to see Jinah, and the whole gang with wands raised. "What happened to stay in your compartment, and where is that boy?" Kenna asks them, they only smile "I hit him with my hammer." Kristen says and as we laugh a little we turn to see a hooded figure come towards us. Almost immeditly Kenna makes the light brighter so we can see the body, and all of our wands are out. "Expecto Patronum!!!" Saki, Sako, Kristen, Jinah, Will, me and five other people I can't see say these words and each person who says that spell animals come out. A pheonix, a otter, a horse and some others that I can't distingush because the light is so bright. "AHHH!" A voice says and then the robe falls back to reveal a blonde haired boy. "WHO ARE YOU!??" We yell at him and then we see he is a fourth year like us. He gets up and after dusting his shirt off, he smiles a wiked smile. "Name? Don't matter, I will see you guys later." then the boy has the nerve to wink at Jinah. He walks away and after opening a compartment and going in it, the light returns and the train starts moving again. "What a jerk." Jinah says as he looks at the door before heading back "Really? I think I liked him." Willow says with a smile on her face

/ooc Goddang it's late and poop it all I have so much studying to do so this post will be uninteresting. Mostly. Except for me ranting about derpy house stereotypes, particularly that of Hufflepuff. And people yes I am in Hufflepuff.<3 /ooc
The train ride with Laura and Willow was mildly uneventful, except for that Dementor attack. When I say mildly uneventful, I mean it was highly eventful and I was so scared I was crapping bricks. I tried to block that incident from my mind, but it kept coming back, and I could almost feel that eerie chill sending shivers down my spine. Egads. Egads for real.
We arrived at Hogwarts in the evening, and I made sure Elena was off with the first-years crossing the lake. Sophie could take care of herself. I told myself to stop needlessly worrying about my little sisters.. they weren't going to die anytime soon (as long as there wasn't a Dementor shindig-hoedown happening anywhere around here).
The night air was cool but pleasant as we boarded the carriages - the Ravenclaw people (JinAh, Vi, Will, Rachel, etc) off with their Ravenclaw-y buddies, my Hufflepuff homies all up in our Cool Carriage (me, Charlotte, Edmund, Saki), the Gryffindor guys (Willow, Laura) and the Slytherin people (Sako, Kris) all in their own carriages too.
Ugh, I hated this segregation. I really hated it. This was the number one thing I really disliked about Hogwarts - the House separation. I felt like I was in 1960's Civil Rights era America... kept apart from some of my favorite people. I LOVE ME SOME RAVENCLAWS AND GRYFFINDORS AND SOME SLYTHERINS. Sob. Well, at least I had these lovely Charlottes and Edmunds and Sakos. They were wonderful. I still wanted everyone else. Sob.
We entered the Great Hall and daaayum was that a feast! Holy cow I could not wait to get my hands on that cake there. I sat down with my Hufflepuff people, and waved to Laura and Willow sitting a few tables down, and then at the Ravenclaw guys but they didn't see me. Poop.
The Great Hall was alive with the jittery excitement of unsorted first-years. I expected Elena to be sorted into Gryffindor.. that was just the type of person she was. I thought about Genevieve and Ellie - surely Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. But of course, you can never really tell.
I spent a few minutes reminiscing on when I sat up on the stool and the Sorting Hat was put on my head - that thing was disgusting. I highly doubted it had ever been washed. Just think of it! All those heads that snarky hat must have sat on! And it didn't take much time sorting me into Hufflepuff. Some people think that house is for the lame people, or the boring people, or the nice people - come on, guys. Is everyone in Slytherin really evil?! Personally, I think Hufflepuff is for the badasses. Yes. That's us, guys.
Whelp, the sorting was about to begin. Excitement! And I really enjoyed the stuff on the cieling. The floating candles always amazed me.

As the coldness and darkness came over me, I remembered a sky I had seen so many years ago. It was a cold, black, utterly silent sky, seen while feeling the frost of 20 degrees below.
The sky sunk into my stomach coldly and numbly, making my whole body shiver. My eyes were wide in the darkness, and I wondered so curiously what in the world could be doing this. I could feel my limbs going limp.
Our wands lit up one by one.
"I'm going to go see what's going on," said Will, and his dark tones frightened me.
We were all so silent. Except for the girlish scream, of course.
"...So, what exactly was out there, Will?"
He told me, and I swallowed. Well, that was interesting. And surreal. And my limbs grew more numb.
I asked what Dementors were. And Rachel told me. Now, that was the frightening part, to me at least. I wasn't so much frightened by action as by information; to know that such horrible things could even exist.... I could almost cry.
But soon enough it was over and I could feel myself recovering from a cold sweat. I stood up shakily. I wanted to know this Patronus Charm. Someone was going to have to tell me.
Before we got off, I asked the train driver what on earth the Dementors were here for, to which the students with and behind us were patient enough to hear.
"They was lookin' fer some fugitives, I believe is what they tol' me," he said quietly. "They foun' a Mister Neil McCloud and dragged 'im away. Off ter Azkaban."
"I see," I said, and hugged my robes to me tightly, still feeling some of that chill. Fugitive or not, it must have been awful to be dragged away by things like that.
I tried to find my sister, but honestly couldn't see her anywhere amidst the large crowd. Silas D'Orey was beckoning all of the first years, though, so I thought she'd be able to find her way. But still, I wanted to be able to go and hug her and reassure her. I was certain she must have been frightened out of her wits. I expressed my fear uncomfortably.
"Don't worry," Jin Ah replied encouragingly. "She had Ellie with her, and Ellie seems like she can stand up to anything."
I nodded, tried to shake off the shivers that still lingered with me, and walked on toward the carriages.
Right before I was about to follow my friends on, I noticed that a little ways beyond there was Mattie Judiths, a Slytherin in our year, and she was doing a very curious thing. Standing a little ways in front of her carriage, she seemed to be stroking something invisibly in the air. Not to brag, but I have pretty good vision, and either she was very good at miming or there was something invisible over there.
Just then, she seemed to notice me staring at her and immediately she put on a glare. I smiled back. Honestly, it's not like glaring back would help at all. Besides, I didn't want to. Then again, smiling probably didn't help a whole lot either. Oh well. At least it showed that I bore her no malice.
"What are you smiling at, you filthy mudblood!" she shouted over at me, to which Rachel gave a very good Levicorpus, which took care of that. I sighed. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. More squabbling. I got inside the carriage and it drove off.
I smiled at the night, and already felt the little butterflies of anticipation fluttering around inside me. To see the magically painted ceiling, the floating lights, the feast!
It was all just as wonderful as I had remembered it. Grinning myself giddy, I went and sat down at the Hufflepuff table with Saki, Edmund, and Sonia.
"It's so stupid how we have to sit separately from one another," grumbled Sonia. "We're perfectly good friends with Gryffindors, Ravenclaws and Slytherins!"
"Yeah," Saki yawned. "There's not a whole lot we can do about it, though."
Sonia stuck her elbows on the table and put her chin in her hands.
"Well, there are things much more segregating than houses," spoke up Edmund. "I mean, think of this whole 'pureblood,' 'half-blood,' and 'muggle-born' thing. To think that some think they're better than others just because their family's got more witches and wizards. 'My wizarding family history has gone back for generations upon generations.' And the same person bragging might absolutely suck at magic."
I nodded. "It's a bit of a pain being called a 'mudblood' all the time by certain Slytherins. But at least it's looked down upon by most."
"Pureblood families always seem to have the wealth and power, though," said Edmund darkly. I looked at him closely.
"Students new and old of Hogwarts!" shouted a voice from the head of the room. We all looked to see our headmaster: Long, light-colored hair, soft brown eyes, and a sweet, wrinkly, friendly smile. "We are looking forward to another exciting year!"
Someone rushed into the empty spot next to me at our table, full of flushed cheeks and panting breath. I looked over, and there was my good friend Bridgette Chapney!
"Bridgette!"
"Charlotte!"
"You're late!"
"Yeah, little sister lost her pygmy puff... you know."
I nodded, smiling, and we turned back to the headmaster.
"We will now invite in our first years to be Sorted!" he announced, and immediately the great doors to the Great Hall opened. In came the large group of cute, excited little children, all looking a bit nervous and not really knowing what to expect. They walked right up to the front of the hall, the Sorting Hat was brought out, and the rest of the school smiled as it began to sing its song:
"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty, But don't judge on what you see, I'll eat myself if you can find A smarter hat than me. You can keep your bowlers black, Your top hats sleek and tall, For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat And I can cap them all. There's nothing hidden in your head The Sorting Hat can't see, So try me on and I will tell you Where you ought to be."
I found my sister in the crowd. Look, there she was, right next to a grinning Ellie!
"You might belong in Gryffindor, Where sell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve, and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart;"
A triumphant cheer from the Gryffindor table.
"You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true And unafraid of toil;"
Our table gave a happy cheer, a particularly loud one from Sonia.
"Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind;"
The Ravenclaws must have cheered, but all we could hear was the stupid Will hollering at the top of his lungs, "YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!" I could see Ellie glaring at him derisively.
"Or perhaps in Slytherin You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folk use any means To achieve their ends."
A whoop from the corresponding table.
"So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! You're in safe hands (though I have none) For I'm a thinking cap!"
We all stood up and burst into applause and cheering, but soon we had to quiet down for Professor Rigby to start announcing names.
"Averies, Annabelle!"
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
"Banes, Julius!"
"SLYTHERIN!"
"Bridgewater, Ellen!"
Up went our good little Ellie, skipping briskly, plopping herself down on the stool, and pulling the hat on her head without ceremony.
Okay, we waited a long time, with her face screwed up in concentration. If you'd been close enough, you could have heard her whispering, "Not Gryffindor, you silly hat...."
But, soon enough,
"RAVENCLAW!"
Will stood right up on the table, whooping and cheering louder than anyone else. Again. Rigby sighed, flicked her wand at him, and soon enough he was properly seated again. Ellie made a point not to sit by him.
"Clooney, George!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"
Us muggleborns would have choked out our pumpkin juice if we had had any. We made do with our uvulas.
ooc/ It's an impulsive thing. Something that you just have to do, espcially at 12:30 in the morning.
Time passed, and nearly half of the students were gone.
"Poe, Genevieve!"
My sister walked up to the stool a bit shyly, but with readiness. On the hat went, and within ten seconds she was declared a
"RAVENCLAW!"
I was the only Hufflepuff who cheered, but whatever. "Yay, Genevieve!" I shouted, and probably people could see the resemblance and understand.
At last, "Zimmerman, Dean."
"SLYTHERIN!"
Then came a round of applause and a few words from Sceoppend that I didn't really hear and a feast that put me in another round of pleased giggles and then the last, happy moment of the day.
ooc/ Um... I'm just going to make a final decision, cuz the poll didn't really work and I think that he's actually the most suitable in a sweet little way.
Professor Aswyno, the school's choir director, got up to the front of the hall and announced, "SCHOOL SONG, EVERYBODY, SCHOOL SONG!" to which we all immediately paid attention.
"PICK YOUR FAVORITE TUNE!" he bellowed, and you could almost see a silly little smile behind his wire glasses. "ONE, TWO, THREE--"
"Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts, Teach us something please, Whether we be old and bald Or young with scabby knees, Our heads could do with filling With some interesting stuff, For now they're bare and full of air, Dead flies and bits of fluff, So teach us things worth knowing, Bring back what we've forgot, Just do your best, we'll do the rest, And learn until our brains all rot!"
More cheers, happy applause, and we all started scooting out of the hallway while the headmaster shouted over our heads,
"SLEEP WELL, EVERYONE! SCHOOL SHALL BEGIN AT NINE O'CLOCK SHARP, SO DON'T STAY UP LATE CHATTING AND CATCHING UP!"
We would all ignore him, of course, but appreciated the gesture all the same. Off to bed with us....

During the Sorting Ceremony, both Genevieve and Ellie and some other intelligent-looking first years were Sorted into Ravenclaw. Rachel, JinAh, and I waved at Genevieve and Ellie when they sat down at the Ravenclaw table, though they sat with the other first-years. After the delicious dinner (as always), the silverware and food magically disappeared at the wave of the Headmaster's hand.
"Ravenclaw first years, follow us!" the fifth year prefects, Kathleen Bartel and Keith O'Leary, told the first years, gathering them up and taking them up to Ravenclaw Tower.
"And to think. Maybe one of us will be leading up the first years to Ravenclaw Tower next year," said Will, leaning back in his nonexistent chair.
"Oh please. Rigby would never choose you to be a prefect. She'd probably choose Walden," JinAh retorted.
"We should begin heading up to Ravenclaw Tower," Rachel said.
"Yeah. We'll need to burn off all of those calories," I agreed.
We followed the rest of the Ravenclaws minus the first years up to the fifth floor and the entrance of Ravenclaw Tower. The fifth year prefects and the first years were taking the more "scenic" route, showing off the beauty of Hogwarts and its history (the Ravenclaws that we are), and buying time for the rest of the house to find their way into their dormitories. Our troupe (Will, JinAh, Rachel, myself) found its way to the entrance of Ravenclaw Tower.
The bronze eagle door knocker suddenly came to life and opened its beak.
"Two wizards are fighting over a sack containing one hundred Galleons. A witch appears and tells them that the sack is hers, but whoever's broom is the slowest in reaching the other side of the forest will win the prize. The wizards immediately look at each other and ride as fast as they can to the other side of the forest. Explain their logic."
"What? That makes no sense! What kind of riddle is that?" Will exclaimed.
"Oh, I know the answer," I said thoughtfully, ignoring Will. Will looked at me as if I were crazy. I continued to ignore him, while Rachel and JinAh looked at me expectantly. "They rode each other's brooms. The witch only said which broom was slower, not necessarily who was riding it. Therefore, if each wizard rode the other's broom and won, then his broom would be slower, and he would win the prize."
"Excellent reasoning," the eagle door knocker said, before swinging the door open, allowing us entry. The Ravenclaw common room was a large, airy space with a domed ceiling that was a dark blue colour and spangled with stars. Bookcases and desks were everywhere. The large, arched windows showcased the mountains in the background, though it was difficult to see in the night.
Will headed off to the boys' dormitory, and Rachel, JinAh, and I ascended up the stairs to the girls' dormitory. Since we were fourth years now, we would be sleeping on the fourth floor dormitories with Emily Bloemquist and Agnes Elton. However, they weren't there yet, so the three of us got settled in our beds, making sure that all of our belongings were still in our trunks and putting all of our hygienic items in the adjacent bathroom, our clothes into the drawers, and arranging our textbooks and other books into the small bookshelves next to each of our beds. We changed into our pyjamas after pulling the curtains around each of our four poster beds in Ravenclaw colors.
After a few conversations about Hogwarts and how glad we were to be back, and being joined by Emily and Agnes, the five of us slowly sank into a deep and relaxed sleep, awaiting the first day of classes.

(continuing from Lo's post...)
I waved goodbye to my friends at the table over and drifted with the other Slytherin students over to the door. Lead by both of our seventh year prefects - Christine and Kenneth - the first year students were led to the house common rooms.
Sako and I drifted to the back of the line, chatting about a few of the new students, and a few other fourth years came to join us including Sebastian, Mattie, Clara and Aeris. Of course, the pure-bloods Mortimer and Madeline weren't far away from our group, but they were too stuck up to interact with us.
"I sincerely hope we don't have herbology first thing in the morning," I groaned. "I don't want to have to get up early and lug my feet that far."
Sako nodded in agreement. "We can just admit right now how incredibly lazy we are."
Aeris and Sebastian both chuckled.
"Well, I for one want a free period," Clara said. "It'd be nice to not have to be able to hang out in the commons during the day."
"It doesn't matter that much," Mattie said, grinning. "After all, whether it be night or day, our common room is as homey as a sewer."
"But without rats," I added.
"Yeah, there are no rats."
Sebastian sighed. "I think it would be terrible if there were rats."
Finally, the group reached the multitude of shifting staircases. The other students were already across the stairs, when Aeris gestured to the girls. "Please, ladies. After you." He smiled, his usual creeper smile. I raised an eyebrow, but proceeded onto the staircase; Sako after me, along with Clara and Mattie, and then Sebastian and Aeris stepped on. Just as they did, it started shaking.
"Crap!" I shouted as the stairs swung to another area.
Sako groaned. "Great, now we'll have walk all the way to-" as she was speaking, the staircase swung again, Mattie and Clara grabbed each other and shrieked.
"No! No! Stop it."
Sebastian, being his usual self, didn't say much, but he did have a rather bewildered look on his face. Aeris, on the other hand, remained calm and was still smiling.
"You!" I shouted, and pulled myself up the stairs next to him and jabbed him in the chest. "Stop it."
He didn't say anything for a moment, even Clara and Mattie were quiet. "Alright."
The stairs swung again into the right place, and I hurried down, pulling Sako after me. The first day back and Aeris was already causing problems. Of course it was Aeris; he may look innocent, but after Sako and I caught him casting charms on the sinks in the girls' bathroom, we knew what was really going on; I think Sebastian had figured it out too. The Fremantle twins probably knew that he was a prankster too, but they wouldn't report him because he was a pure-blood.
Sako and I arrived at the common room finally, just lucky enough that we made it before the door closed. Sebastian and the other three arrived only a few seconds after us, and we stepped into the ever-gloomy slytherin common room.
"That was close," I huffed through my breathing from having to run so far.
Sako nodded in agreement, to breathless to say anything. So, the two of us just headed up into the girl's tower and flopped down on two beds near the window. It had already been a long day, and we both needed some sleep.
((EDIT: Yes, this does mean we don't know the password. Note that detail for later.))

/ooc So all you guys have at least one guy friend in your house, and Gryffindor doesn't have any! I made a character named Nathan, can we kind of work him in here? I'm a little lonely, guys... /ooc
The train ride was lots of run, Sonia and Willow and I were hamming it up in our own compartment, and we wandered around to everyone else's too. All of a sudden, the whole mood changed, and afterward we discovered that a dementor had been on the train. An eerie chill ran down my spine, but I tried to forget about it, or else I would have nightmares.
We departed the train, heard Silas calling for the first years, and got onto our mysteriously moving carriages. "Ohmygod guys these things are so cool. I can never get over this stuff! Magic is so AWESOME," Sonia said, her blond curls practically quivering with excitement. I patted her on the head. "You're so cute."
After we got to the castle and got off the carriages, some kids seemed to be petting the air in front of them. I furrowed my brow, wondering if I was just imagining things. Today had been a weird day, what with the dementor and all, and it still wasn't done.
We made our way into the banquet hall and went to our respective tables, Sonia and I tearfully leaving each other, but at least I had Willow. We went to the Gryffindor table where I saw Nathan. I had known him since my first year, but I didn't know him all that well. He was the kind of person I said hi to in the hallways but didn't really talk with much outside of class. Still, not one to pass up the opportunity to make friends, I plopped down next to him, and Willow sat across from me.
"Hi, Nathan!" I said perkily. He always had kind of a solemn look about me.
He gave me a half smile. "Hi."
"How was your summer?" Genius, I know. I make for fascinating conversation.
"My brother got attacked by some grindylows while he was in New Zealand, my mom almost caught the house on fire, and the Ministry of Magic promoted my dad to the Department of Mysteries. Oh, and I'm raising a hippogriff. It was a bit of a slow summer," he said, deadpan.
I tried to decide if he was being sarcastic enough. I couldn't tell, so I just said, "Oh, hippogriffs. I hear they're temperamental."
"She's really quite friendly. Of course, if you're wearing any sort of shiny something, well, you really just shouldn't get too close..." he trailed off.
"Oh."
He finally gave me a real smile. "How was your summer?"
Well, I was trying to think of some event that would even remotely match his vacation (I watched the Breakfast Club 289 times, maybe that was some kind of record?), but luckily I was saved by the Sorting Hat.
It was a creepy old rag, really, when you think about it. It sang its little song, and sorted everyone into their houses. Genevieve was in Ravenclaw, as was Ellie, and Sonia's little sister Elena made it into Gryffindor (I whooped as loud as I could).
The headmaster gave us a speech, something about having a great year and how great the Hogwarts community was, I'm not sure because I wasn't really listening. Sonia and I were playing charades across the hall (her best one was flobberworm, she just kind of flopped around and flailed her arms. It was absolutely hilarious. My best was pygmy puff. Willow almost died laughing next to me.)
/ooc Okay I really need to go to bed. I'm so behind! Gah I'm busy. I probably won't be able to post again till Monday, so that'll be a suuuuuper long post. Woo.

"Cardaby."
"Lumos."
"Paddock."
"Mercutio."
"Mandelbrot."
"Mandelbrot?"
"First thing that came to mind."
"....Why?"
"I enjoy watching awesome math documentaries."
"I see."
"What's a documentary?"
"Something awesome."
"Oh."
We were stuck outside the still life portrait and didn't know the password. It was rather inconvenient.
"Didn't have the patience to stay and hear the password, did you?"
Quite suddenly, a very tall boy appeared behind us. Curly, sandy hair, deep blue eyes, a long face with a pointed chin and a slightly crooked nose. Thick, sensitive eyebrows. And he had this goofy smile plastered across his face.
Horatio Overton, seventh year, Hufflepuff, Head Boy, he said.
"We can't get in," Bridgette stated the obvious.
"Don't worry, I can help you with that," he drawled. He put his hands in his pockets, looked at the door with a piercing and dramatic look, and then stated:
"Queen Mab."
Sure enough, the portrait swung open.
"Thanks!" I said.
"No problem," he smiled, and crawled on in before us."
Ah, the common room. Mind you, it was a basement, but it was a cozy basement. Everything yellow, plushy couches, a sweet little fire, and tapestries depicting sweet summer days or winter robins.
But we were too tired right then to enjoy any of it. We had stayed up way too late the previous night, had had a very exciting day, a wonderful and enormous feast, and would probably fall asleep as soon as we crawled into our soft, warm beds.
Regardless of putting on pajamas or not. At least, that was my experience.... The others were probably a bit impressed that I had managed to fall asleep so quickly.
I dreamed something curious and interesting. It was a flying dream, and I was soaring through the night. I kept hearing this beautiful music, and I was trying to find where it was coming from. I found myself flying with geese, going through clouds and storms, and then--
I SAW A GIANT SNAKE.
It was pretty scary. It's eyes were bloodshot and hungry, and it was looking straight at me. Something was just about to come out of the thunder when--
Goodness, I was awake.
ooc/ Again. So very tired. What am I doing up at this ungodly hour? I've been the only one to stay up the the entire night to finish watching Inception, that's what.... Oh well. 'Tis worth it. I love Inception. Now, to sleep with me!!!

LOL! Anyway my post turn now After the feast and Charlotte's little sis got sorted we went to our dormitory. The fat lady looked quite annoyed to be harassed by little first years, but we all smiled and shook our heads. The prefects went up to the door and said the password after a few words. "Okay guys, don't forget this password, it changes weekly and will be on the board." people nod and then one of the prefects looks to the fat lady. "Hello," "Hi,..." she says in an annoyed tone "Password?" "Verona, Italy" (SINCE We are doing Romeo and Juliet refrences) "Okay, you can come in." she says and then the door swings open. We walk in and look around. "Come on Kenna lets get good beds!" I say to Kenna, because last time mine was much to squeaky, and Kenna's wasn't...well fire-proof. "Okay!" she smiles and we go into our rooms picking the ones nearest the window but still pretty close to the door, we will have to get up early for practice. "Hey," a voice says and we turn, its _____ the captain of Gryfindor Quiddage. Perfect timing! "Kenna, Katie, your trying out right?" "Yup," Kenna says smiling "Well you two don't need to, your on the team." "WHat??" we ask suprised ___ never did this last year... "Well...I need your help waking up the recruits, and helping set up. You guys could be my little helpers, like mangers or co-captains. Does that sound cool?" "OF COURSE!" I say smiling and we nod and then get instructions to go to all the rooms and tell people to try out and the dates, and of course to get ready for Cursed Week." We go to all the boy's rooms first, then the boys telling them until we finally get to the girl's first year. "What's Cursed Week?" a cute pixish looking girl asks to us quietly. "Well that is the week after tryouts, you work super hard and if you stay on it you will keep your position if you quit oh well. We have seven extra people so if one quits we are still good." the girls nod and we exit quickly. "Ready for Cursed week?" Kenna asks me smiling evilishly "Of Course! This year we get to help out but be in it still! Score! Tomarrow lets work back into shape, five mile run around the campus?" I say smiling "Yeah, Six thirty Sharp!" then we go back to our room unpack and after getting our running clothes and shoes fall asleep, even if we were lame going to sleep at nine. BTW What is the Quiddage captain for Gryfindor?

It had been an interesting day. Elena had gotten sorted into Gryffindor, not to anyone's surprise. It was interesting, though, how me and my two sisters were all in different houses. Strange.
Charlotte, Saki, Bridgette and I were having some trouble getting into the Hufflepuff common room until Hot Seventh Year Guy let us in. In the common room, the freshly-sorted first-years were bouncing around, quite litterally. On the couches.
"Look at these crazy kids," I cried, throwing my arms up in the air.
"They aren't supposed to be doing that, are they...?" Charlotte whispered.
"I highly doubt it," Saki snickered.
Hot Seventh-Year Guy (who's name happens to be Horatio) strode into the room and boomed, "FIRST YEARS! OFF THE FURNITURE! GO TO YOUR ROOMS! GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP!"
This seemed to frighten them off , and they all stepped down from the various chairs, couches, and stools and went upstairs.
"I swear, they get stranger and stranger every year," Horatio said.
Bridgette put her hands on her hips. "Well, Horatio, were we strange?"
He doubled over in laughter. "HA! HAHAHA! Were you strange?! Heeheeheehyahaha! Do you not remember when you three tried to bake a cake with mustard, batter, and gillyweed in here using the fireplace, and ended up burning the whole rug?" He pointed towards the rug in front of the fireplace. Of course we remembered. How could we ever forget? The scorched mat invoked good and bad memories for us... the bad part being called in by Aswyno. Professor Aswyno was generally a cool guy but when he was mad... he started cursing in Welsh. Which was pretty awkward if you were the one being cursed at.
Charlotte, Saki, Bridgette and I made our way upstairs. Aah, it was so nice to be back. The familiar warm scent of the dormitories floated all around me. We found Adella in our room unpacking, and she smiled at us. I loved Adella. She was so sweet and lovely. Like I said, it was nice to be back.
We climbed into our beds at about 10 and I subconciously prepared myself for the day ahead. I had this strange dream about nuclear reactors and Japanese hotels and cereal bowls... and there was some fat panda rooming with me in the hotel. Sometimes I feel like the stupid things my brain comes up with could be turned into energy and fuel a small Sub-Saharan African village.
/ooc sorry for dumb post lol I am running on three bowls of ice cream. <3

WOO POST. Anyway.
Unfortunately, my parents couldn't come see me off ... they had wanted to, but they had both had meetings, and of course my brother had had to go to school. Admittedly, though, any sadness I had about leaving my parents was lessened by the joy I felt at returning to Hogwarts. I loved Hogwarts - all of it - and besides, the months would fly by until I could come home again.
Pretty much everyone else, however, was tearfully saying good bye to their families. Feeling rather left out, I decided to cut out some time by finding us compartments on the train. Considering the number of people we had, we would need three at the least - four would be better. Four. Four was a bad number.
I saw Sebastian hugging his brother and sister goodbye - apparently his parents couldn't make it, either - and gave him a little wave. His sister saw me, and her face lit up. She waved brightly at me, and I felt like I should go over and ask her, at the very least, why on earth she looked so happy to see me.
As soon as I got near them, she enveloped me in a huge hug and squealed out, "You must be Sebastian's girlfriend!"
WAIT. WHAT.
My face must have shown murderous intent, because Sebastian was making vigorous "pleasedon'tkillme" gestures behind her back. His sister was still chattering on. She was cheerful, friendly, and very .... Hufflepuff.
"I didn't think we'd ever get to meet you!" she was saying brightly. "We didn't even know Sebastian had a girlfriend for ages! I mean, you'd think he'd have said something before this. Oh, I'll never forgive him. You could have come over and we could have gone shopping and stayed up late and done artsy things together! I've always wanted a sister. You're a muggle-born, aren't you?"
All of these things were said in rapid succession, and I had to pause a bit to process them. "Yes," I said uncertainly.
"Oh, that's wonderful!" she gushed. "Mother always wanted Sebastian to marry a muggle, but a muggle-born is the next-best thing. She's delighted about you being a Ravenclaw. She's always wanted another Ravenclaw in the family. And you're Asian, too! Your children are going to be adorable!"
My mortification must have shown on my face, for Sebastian's brother cut in here, with an extremely amused expression on his face. "Slow down, Cass," he said. "It's not as if they're engaged."
She pouted a little. "You're always intruding on my fun, Alex," she sniffed. "I can't believe our little Sebastian is finally growing up!" She patted him on the head, much to his annoyance.
"We should go catch the train now," said Sebastian, who seemed very eager to leave.
"You can't leave already?!"
"They're going to miss the train," said Alex. "C'mon, Cass, let them leave. I promised to take Victoria to lunch at eleven thirty -"
"Ah, yes, your fiance. Hmph. And I'm not invited."
"'Course you're not." Alex patted me on the head and said, "Nice to meet you at last. We always thought Sebastian was gay, you know. Come along, Cass." He pulled her away.
"What was that about, dear?" I hissed at Sebastian.
"I can explain!" he said, raising his hands defensively.
"You'd better hope so!"
"Okay," he said. "This is going to sound bad, but just trust me for a bit. So. I told my parents that we're going out because 1) they would believe it and 2) I needed to convince them that I'm not gay - not that there's anything wrong with that - and 3) because I needed to convince my uncle not to try and set me up with-" he made a face here - "Madeline Fremantle."
"Explanation is insufficient. Elaborate."
"Well. See, the thing about my mother is, she's very ... tolerant. Sometimes overly so. She has some sort of apologetic complex, because she feels like she has to make up for every bigoted thing her ancestors have ever done. Thus the whole marry-a-muggle thing - although that's also because she thinks inbreeding among purebloods is going to give us some kind of horrible genetic disorder. But I digress. The thing is, she thought I was gay ... I know because I heard her talking to my sister about it. And she was planning on having this great big announcement of how proud she was to have me as a son, and how she's one hundred percent behind me, and how gay people are just like everyone else and we should be tolerant of them. Which would have been really embarrassing because, regardless of what my family thought, I'm not gay. Also, they thought I liked Will. Or Edmund, I don't think they ever decided on which."
"Well, half the school probably agrees with them," I mumbled under my breath."
"What?"
"Nothing. Continue."
"Well, I needed something to tell them to avoid that mortification. So, um, ah, when they asked me who I was always using Titania to send letters to, I told them that we were going out, and that was why."
"You could have told them the truth!"
"... That I was only sending you letters as an excuse for my elf owl and your cat to spend quality time together?"
"... Touche."
"I didn't think it would actually come to this," he said, wringing his hands. It seemed like the perfect solution at that point - I have a reason for always sending Titania away, proving that I'm not gay and I am certainly NOT in love with either of my best friends, and letting my uncle know once and for all that I am not interested in marrying into the Fremantles - what's worse is that he might have eventually tried to set me up on a date with Mortimer - and, well, I knew who you liked, and it wasn't me, so it seemed like it would avoid any awkwardness there."
"You thought. This. Would avoid awkwardness."
"Yes."
I groaned and shook him by his shoulders. "You, sir, are and idiot."
"What?"
"Internet thing. Anyway. Let us never speak of this again unless strictly necessary."
"Agreed."
The two of us headed onto the train, where Rachel and Vi were waiting for us. We boarded and then found four compartments rather easily - they were right by each other, too. What a stroke of luck.
Indeed, the train ride progressed beautifully. We played scrabble, we talked, we laughed, we spilled things, we screamed (only occasionally), and we were generally foolish children having fun. Until the train stopped, and I suddenly got the impression that fun was currently not an option.
I hate dementors.
I hate them with a passion bordering on sheer terror. To me, dementors are the embodiment of losing -- not only do your lose your soul, the essence of your being, but whenever one comes near me, I have the horrible feeling that I have lost everything I ever loved. That nothing ever loved me in the first place. That perhaps, oblivion would be better - but not better enough to make the Kiss any less frightening.
It is not a nice feeling.
After the dementors had gone - I was thankful that they hadn't come into our compartment, I honestly think I would have gone into hysterics and accidentally cursed Charlotte's arm off or something - and we had explained to Charlotte what dementors were, we were a bit quieter than before. What do you say after experiencing a moment of pure terror?
At that moment, I felt truly grateful that I was in a compartment with some of the greatest friends in the world (/ooc this means you, guys). I mean, honestly. Soon, Rachel, Vi, and Sebastian's dry sarcasm, Charlotte and Edmund's natural cheerfulness, and Will's antics had recovered enough for us to start a conversation again. We were almost at Hogwarts, so we changed into our uniforms. I don't know about you, but I love our uniforms. They're kind of adorable. Plus, there's something nice about uniforms. They make crowds look so ... well, uniform, and neat. Plus, it's much easier deciding what to put on in the morning. Hmm? What color skirt should I wear? What about a nice black? And robes? Black, too, then!
/ooc: will finish later. Dinner.
