It was sad to go, but us girls would be spending the day tomorrow at Sako's house having fun and sleeping over. We'd all go to Platform 9 3/4 the next day with excitement and shenanigans together! And Genevieve got to have a frog. I hadn't been sure at first, but it was nice that Mom and Dad let us keep her. And probably, we'd eventually be able to take her home with us. I mean, she wasn't as rowdy as a dog and didn't kill my dad and sister with their allergies like cats did. It mostly hopped around and looked cute. My dad would find her fascinating and cool, my mom would find her a bit disturbing, but also interesting, and my little brother might be frightened for a while, but would eventually warm up to her. We'd just have to make sure the three little boys he played with next door didn't find her and lose/kill her. Oh, it's not deliberate, of course, but boys will be boys.
Genevieve looked up at me with a smile on her face as we walked. But it was a mischievous smile.
"What?" I asked her, suspicious.
"Edmund."
"Shut up!"
Yes, it's true that I had a huge giant crush on him in first and second years. And when I have a crush, I'm not shy in confiding it in my mom and sister. Genevieve heard quite a bit about him for a while in my letters and things, and when she saw him she must have had instant recognition. She nudged me and raised my eyebrows up and down, and I pushed her back.
"Stop it! We're just friends, and you will not embarrass me like that in front of him!"
It was true. We were really, truly, just friends. Yeah, he was still eye-candy, I still thought he was an awesome person, but I didn't think it was wise for me to crush on him while I was just trying to be friends. Just being friends made things much easier.
We were in the middle of a quiet contemplating silence when suddenly, my sister gasped. Very loudly.
"What? What is it? What happened?" I asked.
"MY WAND! MY FLIPPING WAND! WE NEED TO GET IT!"
"OH MY GOSH, HOW COULD WE FORGET IT?"
"HOW COULD WE?"
"I KNOW!"
"SERIOUSLY!"
So, we busied ourselves with moving as quickly as we could towards Ollivander's. Just seeing that sign... All painted black with faded golden letters and with that dusty shop window. You couldn't see through it very easily, but it all made it even more mysterious and inviting.
"There you go, little sister," I said, smiling with pleasure for her. "Go on in and meet your destiny!"
She nodded, suppressing a laugh. "Right."
I watched her go in, taking the little frog.
Quiet for a moment.
Then there was a bang, a quick flash of light, and the sound of something crashing. I tried to bite back my smile. Ah, such was the process of finding your wand! I thought that Ollivander must either really hate his job, or love it with an fiery passion. I highly suspected the latter.
About fifteen minutes later, Genevieve was out, looking as though she'd seen the light through the dark tunnel. Her cheeks were rosy, her eyes were bright, her hair was bouncing, and her smile was eminent. I'd never seen her so excited, so full of life. It was just like Ogilvy said: Your wand completes you. Had I felt the way she had looked all those years ago? I remembered back to the moment I'd felt that warm, nostalgic wind and thought I must have.
I was a bit surprised about the hug. Genevieve hardly ever hugged me of her own accord, that was usually my job. I could tell that Hogwarts was going to be very, very good for my sister.

Guys, I just wanted to say how much I love this. This is possibly the greatest thing we have ever created.

"Vi! You need to finish packing up! We're leaving for Alisa's house at noon!" my mother yelled down the hallway in Vietnamese. I glanced at the clock. It was almost eight in the morning. My mum was very serious about being early or on time (as was I), while if it was up to my dad, we'd probably be running around at the last minute trying to find my textbooks, throwing them into my trunk, while simultaneously putting on shoes. And when we finally got in the car, I'd be hyperventilating, stressed about possibly being late, while he'd dismiss me and say we're still going to make it there. Early. But, I digress.
But, I was packing anyways. I had my large leather trunk open. The trunk was lined with dark blue silk, the color of blue that you might see on a clear night. I put the heaviest items at the bottom, to make it more stable. That meant textbooks. At my mother's insistence, I had already rounded up all of my textbooks. Which was a good thing, since they were scattered all over the flat. I had my supplies list out, to make sure I had everything.
After a few minutes, there was a neat stack of textbooks at the bottom of my trunk. The Standard Book of Spells (Grade Four), Magical Draughts and Potions, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Intermediate Transfiguration, A History of Magic, Numerology and Grammatica, Ancient Runes Made Easy, Rune Dictionary, Magical Glyphs and Logograms, Spellman's Syllabary. I had re-read all of the textbooks over the summer in preparation for the new school year. I had especially enjoyed Numerology and Grammatica again. I had shared it with my father (who loved math), and despite being a muggle, he was able to understand even some of the more complicated theories. ("Well, numbers and math are universal, aren't they? Even wizards have to understand things like logic and math.")
Next, I put my telescope, phials, and brass scales to the other side of the trunk. I put them back into their boxes to make sure that they didn't break.
After the equipment, clothing. Five white, long-sleeved buttoned shirts, five black, pleated skirts, five pairs of knee-high grey socks, a large supply of contacts and saline solution, a spare pair of glasses, a Ravenclaw sweater vest, a Ravenclaw tie, three sets of work robes, one pair of protective gloves, a black pointed hat, and a black winter cloak.
That was it for the required supplies. Now, everything else. I stuffed my favorite pillow inside the trunk next to my clothes. Then, the wizard's chess set I bought myself in Diagon Alley for my twelfth birthday. Of course, the enchanted Scrabble board. More math textbooks a la my father. Euclid's owl treats. Hogwarts, A History. Magical Theory. A brown sack filled with gold Galleons, silver Sickles, and bronze Knuts. Toothbrushes, combs, and the like. And finally, my wand. I had been storing it in its box for most of the summer. The box, like the wand, was made of kaya. It had a note attached on the inside, which listed the specifications of my wand. "Kaya. Nine-and-one-half inches. Unicorn hair core." I remembered first going to Ollivander's shop some three years ago. Ah, memories. I carefully placed the wand (and its box) on top of everything else.
Finished. I closed the trunk lid. Thankfully, it closed without much hassle. I made sure my name was still on the trunk (though I'm not sure why it wouldn't be since, it was etched in on the side and in bronze; I inherited some of my paranoia from my mother). I walked out of my room, and down to the hallway to my parents' room. I stuck my head in.
"I'm done, mum."
"Okay, leave the trunk in your room and dad will you help you take it out to the car when he brings the car up to the front of the building. Has your owl come back yet?"
"That's right! Euclid!" I yelled, running back to my room. I went to my window to find a tiny owl pecking at the glass and looking at me disappointedly. I opened the door and apologized to Euclid for forgetting about him. (Again.) I opened the door to his change, and he hopped in, and began proudly feasting on the large grasshopper that he had caught. I looked away.
Within a few hours, my trunk was successfully stowed away in the car boot and my dad and I were driving away to Sako's house (after a few good-byes, promises to write), with Euclid('s cage) sitting at my feet, hooting whenever things got too quiet. Sako's house was on the other side of town, so it took us about forty-five minutes to arrive. But when we did, it was apparent that we were almost the first ones there, being beaten just barely by someone else, whose parents were walking away from Sako's house.
My dad and I got out of the car to get my things. My dad helped me carry my trunk, which we carried to the doorstep of Sako's house. Then, I went back to the car to get Euclid and ran back to him.
"So, I guess I'll see you when you come home for Christmas right?" my dad said.
"Mhm."
"And remember, even at Hogwarts, remember to---"
"Do well in school?" I interrupted. My dad gave me a semi-stern look.
"Nah, doing well in school isn't important. If you don't learn, doing well is meaningless. Learn, and have fun."
"Okay, Dad, I will. Love you!"
"Okay, love you too."
I pressed the doorbell, but no annoying doorbell chiming sounds played. Magical system, perhaps? But, sound or no sound, the large, dark wood door opened.

"Hey, dad. LET'S GO." I yelled up the stairs. My hands were on my hips as I waited on my father - I had already packed up all of my things, compressed into a trunk for school supplies and wear, a duffel bag for other things like weekend clothes and my computer (though I doubted I would be able to use it much, I never like to go anywhere without it), and a carrying cage for Meri.
I was not, of course, bringing Meri with me to Sako's house since she was allergic and many other people would be bringing their pets. Meri would stay with my brother overnight, and my stepmom would make sure to take them both to Platform 9 3/4 in the morning, since Cameron was extremely unreliable.
I huffed, and finally my father appeared at the top of the stairs, carrying Meri's things in a bag which was supposed to go with my brother.
"Leave it! Come on, we need to get going!"
"But we still have plenty of time, you don't need to be there until-"
"I don't want to be late," I said as I picked up my baggage. "Besides, it's not like we have a magic car. And we have to pick up Saki, too." I dragged my things out the door before setting them in the back seat of the car. Finally, we were off on our way to Sako's house, but not without our first stop. At her house, she put her stuff in the trunk, hugged her parents goodbye, and off we went.
The scenery was the same as always; down one street, take a left turn at the gazebo and docks and a right at end of the street, as directed by Saki. I stared out the window, trying to remember so I wouldn't get lost like I did before.
"Hey! There's Sako's house!" I pointed over to the house - simple, quaint, and essentially my second home. Well, third home, seeing as my parents were divorced.
Saki laughed, "Yeah. Same place it's always been."
When we stopped, my dad reminded me that I would be spending Christmas with my mom this year. I just replied 'yeah' to all of his last-minute reminders as Saki and I unpacked the car.
We lugged out stuff down the path; I waved goodbye as my father drove away. I noted all of Sako's mother's roses were looking nice, as usual. Sako's mother always took good care of her garden, it was blooming and refined, even though no one ever saw her using magic on it. Saki hit the doorbell, and in a few seconds Sako was there.
"Hey guys, come on in! You're early," she said.
"Sakoo!" I hugged her, and waved at Saki. "Come on, Saki! Group hug!"
"Gosh, Zu, you're so demanding."
So, we hugged, took our things up to the guest room and dropped them off. "This is so exciting! I can't wait! Oh, yeah, do you have any of those terrible popsicles that I absolutely love."
"And I want tomatoes," Saki added. "And meat. Good meat."
"Yes," Sako responded. "But not now, or you two will eat all of the food before anyone else even gets here."
(yes, yes we will.)

"-- were there this morning, talking about the new movies that came out this weekend. And next up, we have a guest speaker fr--" I stuck my arm out from under the covers and whacked the alarm clock. Right-wing radio was the best way to wake up - along with mariachi music - it annoyed me so much that I ended up fully awake.
I looked at my large train and locomotive calendar... August 31. I had been waiting for this day for quite a while.
I jumped out of bed and threw on my uniform - black skirt, grey socks, white shirt blouse, black vesty things, house tie, and those homely loafers. Ohgod. I hope I had enough time. I ran over to fix my hair which would probably take ten minutes. Ohgod. I hoped the rest of my family was awake.
Dump head in shower. Rinse. Conditioner. Brush brush brush brush ow brush brush flounce pat DONE. I ran back to my room. Thank goodness I had packed the night before. Now I just had to get Maximilien ready, and eat breakfast and AGGA BLAGGAAA. EXCITEMENT.
I rushed downstairs with my suitcase - *THOMP THOMP THOMP THOMP THOMP.* Someone yelled groggily from downstairs to shut up. Well, at least they were awake. I hurriedly made myself some omelettes, plus one for Elena, and got the cereal out for Sophie. My dad was up, typing on his computer.
"HeydadcanyoulikebringthosesuitcasesouttothecarpleaseohgodareSophieandElenaawakeaaauuugh!" I ran around, burning myself with flying bits of hot butter.
"Sure. And they're awake." My dad was a man of few words.
Elena emerged, followed by Sophie, all decked out in eyeliner and fake glasses. We started eating, and then my mom came out. It was time for serious buisiness. "Alright, people, eat your food! We can't be late! We have to drop all of you at Alisa's house and then I have to drive your dad to a meeting and I have concert duty! Today's gonna be crazy!"
We obeyed her. It was best to obey my mom when she was on a rushed rampage. So we packed our stuff into the car and screeched around the corner, and were off. Destination: Sako's house.
Man, I was so ready for this.

As I stepped into Diagon Alley, I felt excited and at home. The bustle of people rushing around, getting ready to go back to Hogwarts was somehow comforting.
"All right, are you sure you'll be all right by yourself? You know I can't trust your brother to find anything of his own," my mom said.
"I'll be fine. I'll probably run into someone in no time," I reassured her. And I didn't want to spend any extra time around my brother.
"Okay, if you need anything we'll probably be around Flourish and Blotts," she said, sounding reluctant to let me go.
"Mother, I'll be fine. This is the fourth time I've been here. Just take Thomas away," I said, exasperated.
"All right, I love you." She hugged me and kissed the top of my head. I let her hold on for a minute but then gently disentangled myself.
"Iloveyoutoobye!" I said with a wave and dashed off into the crowd.
My father had said goodbye to me at home. He was a squib, which suited him fine. He loved muggle technology, and even had a job as a muggle engineer. Magic just wasn't his cup of tea, but I loved it. I had been thoroughly convinced my brother would be a squib as well, seeing as he wasn't really good at anything, but lo and behold he possessed magical ability just like me and my mother. Of course he wasn't as naturally talented as I was, but never mind that.
I had spent yesterday perfecting my Gryffindor manicure. It was quite spiffy, if I do say so myself, and I couldn't wait to flash it in people's faces.
I wandered around for a little while, not able to find any of my friends. Napoleon, my little owl, was missing them too, I could tell, even though he hooted haughtily and acted like he was too good for everyone else.
I wandered into Madame Malkin's, since I'm a sucker for fashion, and to my surprise she had a teeny display of magical nail polishes! They dried in all sorts of patterns that were impossible to achieve with muggle polish, and of course I had to buy a few. My mother would disapprove if she had been there, but what she didn't know wouldn't kill her.
Since Napoleon gets jealous if I go into Eyelop's (he has a bit of a fragile ego, poor thing - he gets jealous around bigger owls), I headed into the Magical Menagerie to look at the other animals.
I was meandering around some floppy worm-looking things, when I was suddenly attacked from behind.
"OHMYGAAAAWD GETOFFMEGETOFFMEGETOFFME WHAT IS THISSSS!" I screamed.
"LAAAAAAAAAAAAURAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" my attacker shouted, and I realized it was just Sonia.
"Holy Buddha, Sonia, you're going to give me a heart attack!" I exclaimed. Napoleon fluttered over to her and started nesting in her hair, that smug little powder puff.
Sonia was too caught up with pint-sized energy to notice. "I thought I wasn't going to see you today!" she said.
"Me neither! Is Willow here?" I asked, seeing as it looked like everyone else had already caught up with each other.
"No, but we'll see her on the train," said Sonia.
"I'm about to explode, I'm so excited. OMGLOOKATMYNAAAAILS!" I said, remembering my painstaking manicure.
Will, the huge ham, swooned dramatically and said breathlessly, "Gryffindor-themed nails! How can Ravenclaw possibly compete against a foe armed with such dastardly weapons!?"
"They couldn't," I said nonchalantly, flipping my hair.
Sonia was called away by Sophie and Elena, which prompted us all to say our goodbyes. We had a big day ahead of us, after all.
/PHEW finally posted. I have some catching up to do!

Summary so far: We've all gone to diagon alley to collect supplies, went on a little adventure into knockturn alley because of Ellie's disappearence, Will found an invisibility cloak (so keep a sharp ear at Hogwarts for him) and we're all sleeping over at Sako's house so we can catch the train together!
(for Willow/Laura, and others. I think it would be a good idea to post summaries every once and awhile so we don't have to go back and read every post after we've taken breaks and things)

In response to Kris: I summed up some stuff for Laura yesterday. I'll paste it here: (note: major character names are bolded. Told from my POV.)
1) I, JinAh goes to Diagon Alley and find Sonia. We find Rachel and Sako, then Vi. We go to Flourish and Blotts and find Charlotte and her sister, Genevieve. 2) At Flourish and Blotts Sako gets her foot stuck in this thing and this dude named Oglivy helps us. He's going to be the nurse's assistant later.
3) We go outside and see a vicious wolverine named James and its master, Logan Bingham (whom we hate). Will, one of our friends, shows up, and we argue. Sebastian, another of our friends, shows up, and then Ellie, Will's sister who is Genevieve's new best friend. We go to get ice cream.
4) We eat ice cream. Sako has gone off to find Kris and Saki. We tell the story of how Vi almost got killed in first year, and of how Will, Sebastian, and Edmund became friends with each other and us. We go to finish shopping and somewhere in the meanwhile we buy stuff and are reuinted with Sako, Saki, and Kris, who have ditched Kris's brother Cameron.
5) We have a run-in with the obnoxious Fremantles (Madeline and Mortimer) and end up stunning them. We go into a random store, and Ellie gets sucked away somewhere. We go to look for her. 6) We go by floo powder to Knockturn Alley. Once there, we find Ellie and go back to Diagon Alley, and encounter Edmund, who has found an invisibility cloak.
7) Invisibility cloaks are insanely valuable, so we go to return the cloak, but we can't seem to find its owner and just decide to keep it.
8) after everyone is done shopping for pets, we run into Katie, who is with her friend Kenna, and also Laura. After that it is time for us to go and sleep to prepare for the fabulous Sako party/sleepover which awaits the next day.

I threw things together in a furious storm, not able to get things packed fast enough. "WHERE'S ALL THAT NAIL POLISH I SET OUT?" I roared.
"I DON'T KNOW, YOU HAVE TOO MUCH OF IT ANYWAY, YOU DON'T NEED TO BRING IT," my mom roared back.
"THOMAS, WHY DO YOU MESS EVERYTHING UP?" I screamed.
"I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING!" he yelled.
I ran around furiously, ransacking my room for the elusive nail polish. I finally found it under my pillow. This was strange but I didn't care since this was the last thing I had needed to pack. I checked myself in the mirror: Gryffindor tie, headband, vest, ironed skirt, shoes... shoes? Where were my shoes?
"WHERE ARE MY SHOOOOOES?"
"THEY'RE IN THE KITCHEN, GET IN HERE!" My mom was quickly losing patience.
I ran in and skidded to a halt, pulled on my shoes, and ate some of the chocolate bread that I had prepared the night before. Now that I was sure I looked immaculate, I felt calmer, and there was a gentle buzz of adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"Where on earth is your brother?" My mom said, sounding frazzled.
"THOOOOOMAAAAAAAAS!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
My mom looked ready for bloody murder but instead went back to drag Thomas out of his room.
I double checked all my books, which I had skimmed over in preparation for this year. My dad wandered in and gave me a hug, telling me he'd see me soon, for Christmas, then headed off to his muggle job. My dad's not exactly a gushy guy.
In a few minutes, we were able to get ready and out the door.
"OHMYGAWD, STOP. I FORGOT NAPOLEON!" I cried sharply, causing my mom to slam the brakes down and jolt us all forward. Luckily we were only a few houses down the street, so she screeched in reverse back to our house. I flew out of the car, into the house, grabbed Napoleon (who was glaring at me and refused to make any sound), and rushed back. We screeched off again, and this time we hadn't forgotten anything.

"Party?" I ask Kristen with a puzzled face, "what party?" "Didn't you get the owl? We are having an amazing party with Sako!" she says smiling, I still look at her confused, "I didn't get anything..." "Well get ready because everyone is invited! We shall go to a special place and then party the night away, after a while we will kick out the boys though," she says and smiles as Sako nods aggrebly. "Well what do I need? And where is it?" "Its at-" pipes Genevieve but before she can say Charlotte rounds on her. "Shhh its a secret remember," she says and then looks at me. "You just meet where we say you to go, then bring all your stuff, we are going on the train after the party." "Anything special?" I ask after a moment of confusion, where is this party? "Yeah, anything flammable?" Kenna asks with a wiked gleam in her eyes "Umm, no Kenna, we don't want to start a fire again." I say to her as I roll my eyes. "Shoot," she says as Laura comes breathing heavy, everyone smiles and welcomes her as she tugs her brother with her. "Hey guys. This sucks, I have to drag my brother around." she says with an exhausted look, her brother rolls his eyes and gets out of her grip easily and rubs his ears, wincing a little. "So what are we going to do at the party?" Kenna asks the group, "Umm...party?" Kristen says quietly "Thats great with me," I say and finally all the group will be together before school starts and competition becomes important, I know that life might get a little messy during the season, since of course Gryfindor will win and destroy those tiny snakes, weak ravens and puny hedgehogs.

/ooc Groooooaaaaaan, brothers. **sigh**. I say we petrificus Thomas and have done with it.
One thing I hate about my sleeping habits is how, whenever I'm excited about something, I'll wake up an hour or two earlier than normal, and then try and go to sleep because I feel like I should, and then feel dissatisfied and tired later because I'll have only gotten semi-sleep, which keeps you from being functional but also does not refresh.
This was, of course, the case the day before Sako's party and sleepover.
My mom had persuaded me to pack everything the night before, so, after dragging myself out of bed, I dressed - I just slapped on jeans and a t-shirt, as I didn't see the point in getting dressed in my Hogwarts uniform if we wouldn't even be getting on the train until the next day - and made sure I hadn't left anything vital unpacked. I was sitting and trying to remember if I had done all of my astronomy homework when Stellamarie pounced on my lap.
"Mrrrrrr," she purred.
"Get off, you," I told her.
"Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr," she purred a bit more insistently. She whacked my nose with her tail.
"Ow! Bad kitty!"
"Mrrrr." she jumped lightly off my lap and trotted off, looking at me as if saying, "follow."
/ooc must go beddy now. Where is she going? She's a cat, who knows. Probably a dead squirrel.

I don't have to have Thomas with me. In fact I'd rather not. We probably would have dropped him off at one of his Hogwarts friends' house.

Alright, bleak day, bleak day. No, awesome day, awesome day. EXCITING, EXCITING, EXCITING-- depressing.
I shoved my head into my pillow, smiling and giggling. I WAS GOING TO HOGWARTS TO LEARN ABOUT MAGIC, WOOHOO!!!! I WAS GOING AWAY FROM HOME FOR ANOTHER NINE MONTHS, AHHHH!!!!
Well, it wasn't that bad. I still had Christmas holidays, and they would most definitely, _definitely_ be spent here. Even if I didn't want to come home, my parents would probably get themselves a hold of a broom, find their way to Hogwarts and take me back anyway.
I went to my mirror and looked at myself. Unkempt hair hadn't been brushed, eyes still looked sleepy, cheeks were flushed with drowsiness, and I slumped over. Last night I hadn't really slept a whole bunch, I'd been to excited about today. Alright, awesome FAIL WHALE T-shirt (check), red and white dotted skirt (check), high tops (check), yellow ribbon for hair (check). Probably a bit too weird for my mom's approval, but it didn't really matter today because I was only going to be hanging around friends, and at school we wore our awesome uniforms anyway. So.
I looked in my trunk, which I'd busied myself with packing the night before when I was all full of energy. (I'm a night person, not really a morning person, but I don't really mind mornings.) Awesome sweatervest, awesome tie, awesome white blouses, awesome grey skirts, awesome stockings, awesome mary janes. Books. Cauldron and scales. Notebooksnotebooksnotebooks. Quills and mechanical pencils, erasers, lotsandlotsofled, my Texas Longhorns blanket (why do I have it? I have no idea.), and Molly, the stuffed doll that I still couldn't sleep without. Yeah.... Kind of have had her since ever since I can remember (which is back before the age of six months).
Wand. I looked at it for a moment, smiling. Long, springy, pretty, awesome with charms. (And DADA, so I was told, but that didn't make much sense.) I decided to put it in my back pocket*. I didn't mind if muggles saw me with it, they wouldn't take too much notice of it anyways.
I stepped outside with the suitcase rolling behind me, and found Genevieve in the hallway with her own wand clenched tightly in her hand. Cherry, dragon heartstring. Happy, strong.
"Eliiiizabeeeethh..."
"What is it?"
"Teach me how to use this thing!"
"Don't you want to wait for Hogwarts?"
She shook her head quickly. "Nuhuh!"
"Well, alright, then."
Swish and flick! "Wingardium Leviosa!"
My trunk started floating towards the ceiling.
"Woah! Can I do that?"
"Sure."
"So, it's... Winguardian Leviosa?"
"Wingardium."
"Er, right."
She flicked, swished, and Winguardian'd it. The suitcase fell to the floor and landed on her toe.
"OW!!!"
"Ah! Dear!"
---
"We'll be seeing you tomorrow sweetie, okay?" said my mom with her worried-but-trying-not-to-look-like-it face. "We'll be at the platform to drop Genevieve off and we'll see you off there."
I nodded. "Alright."
"Do you have everything you need?"
I lugged the huge trunk out of the car.
"Yeah, I think so."
"Alright. Be a good girl, 'kay?"
I nodded again. "I will."
She smiled. "I know you will."
Hug, kiss, goodbye. She drove off.
I sighed. Going to Hogwarts would be so much easier if it didn't break my parents' hearts as much as it did. And this year they'd be missing both me and Genevieve. I looked after the car again and sighed again. Ah well. Nothing to do now but go and knock on my friend's door and have them cheer me up!
Just then, something skidded right past me and splatted (yes, splatted), arms and legs spread out wildly, right into Sako's front door with a loud THUMP.
"Uh..."
I ran up to the figure, who had been on a broom, but was now sprawled next to it, looking quite dazed.
"Will? Are you okay?"
Quite unexpectedly, his face broke into a wide, rather insane grin. "Yes! Yes! Quite alright!"
He brought up a hand for me to take and help him up. I grabbed it, and it took a lot of effort because of me being the weakling that I am, but soon he was on his feet.
"That's the fastest I've ever gone!" he said, seeming quite pleased with himself, although there was a large bruise forming on his forehead.
"Er... We should go in and get you some ice," I said, smiling concernedly. We often called my own little brother Will Q. Toadington Esquire the Fourth of Maine when he was being troublesome, and I had a sudden urge to call him that now.
"Ice? Who needs ice?" he asked. I nodded. Probably someone in that house would know how to heal bruises without the aid of something cold.
The door opened, revealing our good friend Sako.
"Sako!" I said, and hugged her.
"Hey, Lo!"
Lo. It's a long story.
"What was all the ruckus down here about?" she asked.
I pointed to Will and the broom. She got the jist.
"Right. Come on in, I think my mum can fix up that bruise for you."
"Bruise? What bruise?"
"The bruise on your forehead, Will," I said, my smile returning.
"WHAT? A BRUISE? A BRUISE ON MY BEAUTIFUL FACE--"
THWACK.
Jin Ah had a rolled up magazine this time. "Act like a civilized human being for once, Orville."
"ARE YOU TRYING TO GET ME ANOTHER BRUISE?"
"If it will stop you from acting like an idiot all the time..."
"DON'T CALL ME ORVILLE."
"It's your fault for telling me your real name in first year."
"I didn't do that! Professor Rigby did! At the sorting!"
"Oh. Right. Well, I still must use that information in case I need it."
He seethed, very quietly.
"Anyways, come on. Edmund's already here, and he brought his new cloak, though I have no idea why."
"YESS!!!" And he ran upstairs to where he presumably thought Edmund would be.
I took up this opportunity to hug Jin Ah.
"Hi, again!"
"Hi, Charlotte," she smiled.
We all ran upstairs to greet the others while Sako went to get her mum. We got up there just in time to see Edmund invisibly trip Will, making him trip and fall flat on his face.
"AH!!! MY BEAUTIFUL FACE SHALL BE RUINED YET!"
Jin Ah sighed and went up to Will with the magazine again. "You should have been expecting that."
"Yeah, I should," he admitted, getting up. By now, though, he seemed pretty dazed with getting hit in the face all the time, and Sako's mum arrived just in time before Will could say any more stupid things and Jin Ah would have to hit him again.
"Episkey," she said, and immediately Will's injur(ies) started to shrink back into themselves until they weren't there anymore.
"I thank thee a thousand times, Mrs. Turdblossom, I am forever in your--"
THWACK.
Okay, I was fascinated. I wanted to know how to do that. More ways to help people, YESSSS. I'd have to try that one out later when the opportunity arose. Maybe the next time I tried to fly, Hitchhiker-style. Episkey, was it?
After a while, though, Sebastian came over with his own broom, and after a while they were showing off their brooms to each other and being stupid and such. I itched to be able to fly one of those again, to be in the air and soar...
It was actually a fairly gloomy day that day, but I didn't think that would stop them from eventually playing a small game of two-player Quidditch. Jin Ah had put down her magazine by then, and I stepped over curiously to see what it was.
'The Quibbler'. I smiled at the name. Yay, wizarding world, you've done it again! How fun it was to enjoy the insanity. I opened it, looked through, and immediately started grinning over how ridiculous it was being. Nargles....
"My family subscribes to that more out of amusement than anything," Sako said, reading over my shoulder.
"Yeah? It's brilliant!" I giggled.
"I know, huh? It has some of the funniest things in there. Like here, it says that there's a certain kind of lizard that actually spurts blood out of its eyes!"
"Er, Sako. That's real."
"Er, really?"
"Yeah. Horned toads. My dad told me all sorts of stories about playing with them when he was little."
"But your dad's a muggle, isn't he?"
"Yes, but horned toads aren't dragons...." I smiled yet again. I actually wouldn't be that surprised if my dad had seen a dragon once, actually. I knew I wanted to see one.

"Oh my Merlin, oh by Merlin's saggy -" I swore, trying to throw everything in my trunk at once. I had fallen asleep in the middle of packing and had only thrown my clothing (neatly folded for once, I needed the space) in. The books were easy enough; I just dropped them on one another. The quills in their box went on top of them; everything else was thrown in haphazardly.
Steven hooted loudly from his perch; he was never fond of my laziness and lack of organization. And yes, I anthropomorphize my owls, but I lived in a world where magic was real. It was to be expected, really.
My mother started yelling for me as I slammed the trunk shut and was pulling a shirt on; I stuck my wand in my pants (I was going to change on the train), pulled on socks and shoes, and then rushed downstairs yelling "HEY I'LL BE DOWN WITH EVERYTHING SOON EVAN HELP ME WITH STEVE."
Once my family had gotten everything down and into the car, we putted off to Sako's house.
-
When we were there, I quickly said goodbye to my family and entered the house. I yelled out a hello and then went on a rant about how why I was late. No one cared.
Then we all ate ice cream.

/ooc: Kk, that's fine. (to Laura) The continuation~
Stellamarie (I'm just putting it that way, Stella Marie looks kind of weird) jumped up lightly to my window, and rapped on the glass with her tail. I pulled up the shade to discover - to my horror - a tiny elf owl beating feebly against the glass. She had probably been doing so for a few hours before I noticed.
Stellamarie pointed her ears reproachfully at me, and whacked me on the nose again.
"All right, all right, I'm getting her!" I said. The poor thing was weighted down with a ginormous book - but if it was Titania, Sebastian's owl, like I thought it was, he would have put a charm on it to lighten the weight (lucky him, living in a magical household where the Ministry wouldn't notice or care).
I opened the window and the tiny owl fluttered in. I untied the book from her leg - it practically weighed nothing at all. Titania flew up to sit on Stellamarie's head, and the cat purred with contentment. Ever since they had first met, three years ago, Stellamarie had some sort of weird protectiveness/best friend thing going with Titania. The little owl would sit on her head, and woe to any cat who tried to attack Titania with Stellamarie around.
I appreciated the fact that the book was so light - it looked as if it would normally weigh several pounds. The title read: What We Can Learn From Muggles: Incorporating Muggle "Geekdom" Into the Wizarding World. There was a note attached: it read, "JinAh - was cleaning out Dad's study and thought you might find this interesting. Check out pg. 432. PS Don't tell Will I gave you this!"
Hm. It sounded interesting. I flipped to pg. 432. What could Sebastian - ah. Oh. This was going to be good. I grinned with anticipation.
The rest of the book proved quite fascinating as well, and so I was still reading it when my mom yelled upstairs that we had to leave. I shut it reluctantly and shoved it with some difficulty into my purse, then got my trunk and my wand and headed downstairs. My dad had already gone off to work, but my brother was waiting for me; he started crying and made me promise that I would write him regularly, and then started complaining that he wanted to go to Hogwarts, too, until my mom got sick of his whining and yelled at us that we were going to be late.
Luckily, we weren't. We got to Sako's house with a minute or two to spare. My mom helped me get my trunk, the smaller one with all my stuff in it, out of the other trunk, the big one belonging to the car with all the leaves in it. She smiled and gave me a hug - there were tears in her eyes, and I could tell she hated to have me go away again. In fact, I had been surprised that she had let me have a sleepover the day before school in the first place - probably because she expected that I'd catch up on sleep on the train (not likely) and because she loved Sako, because Sako was smart. I hugged her back, and promised that I wouldn't stay up too late, and I would write her every week, and I wouldn't get into trouble, and etc. She had to leave, to drop Jayha off at his friend's birthday party, so she hugged me again, and they drove off. I watched them leave, both sad at having to leave my family and excited about returning to Hogwarts.
I turned to Sako's door, and rang the doorbell. I couldn't hear anything, so I pressed it multiple times, until I realized embarrassedly that it was probably some magical thingamajig that I couldn't hear. (/ooc Google Chrome recognizes thingamajig as a real world. TOO COOL.) Next to me, Tiania hooted (I hadn't bothered sending her back to Sebastian, as he would be at the party) and Stellamarie meowed, both sounds sounding suspiciously like they were laughing at me.
After a few more seconds, Sako opened the door. "JinAh!" she said. She started to say something, but her words were drowned out by half-crazed laughter coming from the back of the house.
Sako's face took on an exasperated expression, and I'm sure my own face had something like O.o on it. "Er..." I said. "Is ... Will here?"
"No," she said, sighing, "That's Sacchan and Zu. I told them they shouldn't eat that candy, but would they listen to me? I think you can hear the answer for yourself."
The laughter got louder, and Kristen and Saki came waltzing out of the hallway. "Hello, JinAh!" they chorused, giggling like hatters. Neither of them looked as if they were in full possession of their senses.
"What was in that candy?" I asked.
"It was a potion my sister was experimenting with," said Sako. "It's a little like the effects of laughing gas, only more so."
"I see."
"Well, why don't you come in?" invited Sako. She helped me carry my trunk inside, where I put it next to where Saki and Kris had already dumped their stuff. I opened Stellamarie's case, and she and Titania hopped out.
"So, Titania's with you?" the unspoken word was, "Again?"
"Ooh! Yes!" I said. "Actually, Sebastian sent me something that I think you'd be rather interested in ..." Tugging the book out of my purse, I flipped it to page 432. Sako looked at it over my shoulder.
"Ah, I see." She smiled. "Sounds great. Um ... El Goonish Shive*?"
"It's a muggle webcomic," I explained. "Actually, I've been thinking it was a fantastic idea ever since I read about it. Although I'm sure Will would think differently."
"Oh, yes," said Sako, getting a dreamy expression on her face. "Will would definitely think differently."
"It looks like it would take a bit of time to get ready," I said. "Once we set up the initial spell, it'll need a bit of time to work itself out. Also, we'll have to leave it open for additional imprints, which will take even more time to set up. Also, I'm assuming we can do magic here?"
"Oh, yeah," said Sako. "My parents won't mind, and neither will the Ministry."
"Awesome." I grinned. "Will won't know what hit him."
We went upstairs to Sako's room, where Saki and Kris munched on food while the potion wore off (Sako told me it would probably take maybe five or ten minutes) and read manga, and Sako and I set up the spell. It was fairly complicated, but the book was excellent about diagrams and things like that, so it only took us a few minutes. After that, we had to wait and leave it. While we were waiting, Sako showed me a magazine called The Quibbler. It appeared to be basically a tabloid, minus the page three stunner. I was engrossed in an article about how Gladrags Wizardwear was inserting mind-controlling potions into all of its socks in an attempt to create a monopoly on the footwear market when the doorbell rang - it was a quiet chiming sound, right by your ear - and there was a loud THUMP.
Sako looked out of her window onto the front doorstep. "Oh, there's Lo!" she said delightedly. "And ... Will. And the spell isn't ready yet!"
"It will be, dear Sako," I said. "It will be. And our revenge will be sweet."
* For those of you who have read EGS, we're not turning Will into a girl.
/ooc. Also, it has come to my attention that Edmund should be here at this point. Edmund got freaked out by Saki and Kris's incessant laughter, and decided to hide downstairs and wait for Will. This was all told to me by Sako in the part I skipped over. Yay, continuity.

"This isn't a party without ice cream," I said as I wolfed down spoonful after spoonful of chocolate decadence. "And we have ice cream. So therefore it's a party."
"Excellent insight, Professor Margolin," muttered Rachel.
"Someone pass me sprinkles, I need sprinkles, people." Laura was polishing off a second helping of ice cream, to everyone's amazement. "Ohmygosh. I really hope Selachii isn't teaching Transfiguration this year."
Kris finished her ice cream and sat cross-legged in the chair. "Why? I kind of like her. She's very together. And I like her class."
"I dunno," said Laura. "She sends me bad vibes. Maybe she's jealous of my nails, because hers aren't very desirable, if you ask me. "
"Actually, I think that if any teacher should leave, it's Professor Rigby," JinAh put in. "She's biased towards Ravenclaws, right? I mean, that's nice and all, but it's not... it's not very fair."
"Dude," I said. "She gives out candy. That's enough for me."
"Let's not talk about teachers.. it's not very nice," said Charlotte. We grudgingly agreed with her. It may not be nice, but it was sure entertaining.
"Viiiiiii. Where are youuu," groaned Rachel, leaning back in her chair and flapping her arms around.
Vi was over in the other room, setting up a fantabulous game of Dungeons and Dragons. "Here, and I have Dungeons and Dragons! Everyone! Come forth!"
I had never played this game before but I was pretty sure it involved a many-sided die and dragons. Not to mention dungeons. I sat in Laura's lap and watched as everyone crowded around the game board. This was proving to be interesting.

If you had asked me what everyone else was doing, I'd have had no idea, though I heard laughter every so often. The worrying kind. But I paid it no mind. My friends were almost always crazy like that. Anyways, I had separated myself from the group because I had gotten distracted by some spinning gyroscopes that were levitating a few inches off the table. It reminded me of a geography teacher that I once he had. When students made up excuses about not turning in homework, missing tests, blah blah blah, he would point to the gyroscope turning up on his shelf and proclaim: "The world is always turning! If you can't keep up, that's your own problem." However, I found it amusing that one time, when we had a substitute teacher, the turning gyroscope stopped (presumably because it ran on batteries, not magic). I then pointed this out to my fellow classmates by saying: "Look! The world stopped turning!" And my classmates would gasp and pretend to die. When our teacher returned the next day, we mentioned this to him, and he asked us sternly, "Who turned off the world?" But once again, I digress.
So, I was browsing through the room of magical artifacts, stopping and staring at a Time Turner that was encased in force field of some kind (apparently the Ministry had decided that Time Turners could no longer be used), walking quickly past a jar of what looked suspiciously like eyeballs, and then just sitting in a corner of the room to stare at all of the awesome stuff. While I was sitting, I spotted something quite peculiar and not at all magical. It was a rather clunky white box in the shape of a rectangular prism with vents and slots and buttons everywhere. I took out my wand and tapped at it. It made a hollow clanging noise that was oddly familiar. I thought for a bit before grinning widely.
"Wingardium leviosa!" Since Sako was a pureblood, and her parents were at home, the Ministry wouldn't care if I used magic at her house. I levitated the white box out to the middle of the room. Yes! It was a computer. A computer from twenty years ago, but a computer nonetheless. My dad had quite a few of these computers (he was quite the packrat) lying around the house, but we hadn't used them in ages. But where was the monitor...? I searched high and low, but alas, neither sight nor sound (though I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have made a sound regardless) of a monitor. Perhaps Sako would know where one happened to be if there was one at all. Regardless, I had to inform everyone else of the exciting discovery. I levitated the computer once again and walked it out the door and down the hall.
It wasn't too hard to find everyone. Everyone was just down the hallway and a left hand turn away to find the living room.
"Look what I found, guys!" I said excitedly. "A computer!"
"But where's the scre---oh." JinAh stopped herself before continuing, realizing what she was about to say.
"Yeah, that's the problem. I have the computer, but I don't have the monitor," I explained. "So, er, Sako, do you know if your parents would happen to have a monitor anywhere that I could possibly hook up the computer to?"

After the lovely ice cream party, followed by a game on dungeons and dragons (which I do absolutely love), the group of Sako, Saki, Rachel, Vi, Sonia, Laura, Charlotte, Will, Sebastian and I went to the living room and flopped over on the couches, beanbags, and some kitchen chairs. Then, Vi summoned up a computer.
"The TV works as a monitor," I spoke, before Sako could reply. "I also have my computer, too."
"Yes, and I have another upstairs. They're very useful muggle objects," Sako added.
"I know, right?"
Sako helped Vi to hook up her old computer to the TV and set it up. Meanwhile, the doorbell rang. I stood up and said; "I'll get it." When I got to the door it was Katie and her pyromaniac friend, Kenna.
"Hey, Kristen! Sorry we're late, but we got a little lost on the way here."
"Hey, what's up? We're doing stuff inside, but I'll help you take your stuff to the guest room," I offered.
"Oh, no thanks, I can get it," with that the two girls flicked their wands at their stuff and sent it up to the room, before the three of us returned to the living room where everyone else was gathered.
"Wait a minute," Saki said. "Where's JinAh?"
"She's here, I think she's just upstairs," Ray explained.
(ooc - sorry it's short. Putting stuff together here. I don't know what Vi's doing with the computer)

/ooc. my post takes off directly where Kris's ends. YESSS. The spell was virtually done; it would finish in a few minutes. And now, all we had to do was wait for Will to do something stupid. This was not something which would take very long. When I hopped back downstairs, Kenna and Katie were out back throwing around a soccer ball (we didn't want to use a quaffle in case it flew away), Kris and Saki were huddled around a manga, Rachel was trying to teach Sonia Dungeons and Dragons, Sako , Edmund, and Charlotte were perusing The Quibbler, Sebastian was looking superior while petting the lazy, purring cat on his lap (he would probably be there for a while; Stellamarie was one of those cats where, once they sit down on your lap, they WILL NOT MOVE unless you bribe them with food), Vi was fiddling with her computer, Will was lying on his back with his head in Edmund's lap, and Willow and Laura were looking through a fashion magazine. Willow pulled a face. "All of these clothes are so unfashionable," she said. "I mean, they've virtually remained unchanged for decades! Why is the wizarding world so backward where clothes are concerned?" "Well, they've got dress robes, haven't they?" asked Laura. "UGH. Do not get me started on dress robes," Willow said. "Do you know how hard it is to find a decent pair? And when do we ever get chances to wear them?" "Maybe we'll have a dance sometime," Charlotte called from her corner. Sako was giggling her head off over something. I crept over to her and whispered in her ear: "It's ready." She sat up, immediately alert. "Really?" I nodded. "Awesome." Meanwhile, Will was doing his usual theatrics. He had gotten up from Edmund's lap, and had pretended to swoon across Sako's coffee table. "Merlin forbid," he said. "A dance? A dreadfully dizzy whirl of dancing dervishes? A foul and fancy-filled flirtatious forum of floozies? I would rather die a thousand fire-filled deaths than suffer such a fate." "Excuse me?" said Laura, putting her hands on her hips. "Floozies?" "Ooh! I got it!" Sonia exclaimed. "So, my level 20 half-orc beserker rolls a natural 20 on power check, so your paladin is out of the game!" Rachel groaned and put her head in her hands. "Maybe we should continue this later, Sonia." Sonia blushed. "Aargh, I'm sorry ... this is so floopin' confusing." "The confusion levels!" said Will. "They're - they're OVER NINE THOUSAND!" He started dancing around, singing, "These rules are so confusing, don't you see That you should all come sing and dance like me? Forget these silly games With their floopin' silly names And forget your troubles with Will Crowleeeeeeeeeeyyyy~" We groaned. When he started singing and dancing, it wouldn't be over for a while. I looked at Sako. If this wasn't a good time to use the spell, then what was? I walked up to Will, pulled a huge mallet out of midair, and whacked him on the head with it. "What the-" he said (his face was like this www.myfacewhen.com/165/), and fell, stunned to the ground. I kissed the mallet and then put it back where it had come from - the theoretical area known as "hammerspace." Everyone was staring at me except for Sako, who was rolling on the ground with laughter, and Sebastian, who was looking rather smug. "What. Was that." Laura asked, deadpan. "See," I said, "I found this book - it's upstairs - that's all about taking things from muggle geek culture and incorporating them into the wizarding world. Now, hammers coming out of midair is an incredibly common trope - it's in anime and mangas and comics galore - although the example the book uses is from a webcomic called El Goonish Shive. It teaches you how to create "hammerspace" and store gigantic hammers - well, more like mallets - there, to whack people with at random times, even when you don't have your wand and can't use actual magic. The spell is preset, and then you can imprint people onto it, so that they can use the hammers at will. Literally at Will, in this case." "Uhhhhhh," said Charlotte. "Is Will hurt?" "Nope!" said Sako. "That's the best part. It'll knock the person out for a few seconds, but it won't hurt them at all." Indeed, Will was coming to. "Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh," he groaned dramatically. I kicked him with my foot. "Oh, get up," I said. "It doesn't hurt." "I ... I see a light," Will said, gazing off into the distance. "It ... it's beckoning to me. It wants me to follow it. Oh, it is a beautiful light!" "Noooo, Will!" said Rachel. "Don't go to the light!" She seemed to be enjoying herself immensely. "I must go to the light," Will said, rising. His face took on a half-crazed expression. "And there are voices, now ... they whisper to me ... they want to know ... secrets ..." "Cut it with the dramatic pauses, Will. Or," I said, raising my arm threateningly, "Do you want another taste of the hammer?" "No!" Will shrieked. "NO! ANYTHING BUT THAT!" From outside, Kenna and Katie came running in. "Is everything okay?" Kenna asked, breathless. "We heard a scream-" "KEEP HER AWAY FROM ME!" Will shrieked, dodging behind Katie. "She's insane! Loony! Stark raving mad!" "Um," said Katie, carefully stepping away from Will. "You get back here, Orville Bridgewater!" Sako said, pulling her own hammer out. "Make me, Sako Turdblossom!" I pulled out my own hammer, and the two of us advanced on Will. I darted behind Will, to cut off his escape, while Sako closed in from the front. Will, surrounded, ran into the corner - and realized that he was lost. He immediately struck up a ridiculous martial arts-looking pose. "YOU CAN TA'K MAH LIFE BUT YOU'LL NE'ER TA'K MAH FREEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOM!" he roared. "HAYAH!" He swung at us experimentally. "Try your best, Turdblossom!" I covered the exit, while Sako stalked towards him, raising her hammer. "Don't. Call. Me. TURDBLOSSOM!" On the last word, she swung her hammer towards Will. Will managed to dart underneath it; the hammer hit the wall, and Will thought he was free - only to run headfirst into my waiting hammer. "No damage done," said Sako, relieved, after briefly inspecting the wall. She turned to me and gave me a high-five. "Whoah." That was Sonia. We turned, and realized that everyone else was staring at us again. "That. Was. AWESOME!" said Charlotte, who was cracking up. "It was pretty cool," Laura agreed. "Can you teach me how to do that, too? I can use it oh my brother when my mom's not looking." "Sure," I said, "although I'd advise against using the hammers on your brother." "Oh, phooey," said Laura, sticking out her bottom lip. "It would have been fun." "C'mon." I started walking up the stairs. "Sako and I'll set you guys up. It won't take long." "Hey!" protested Sebastian. "This cat won't let me move." It was true. Stellamarie was ostensibly asleep, and had her claws out in that way that says "I'm choosing not to claw you right now, but if you move at all, that is definitely an option." "Eh," I said. "I actually don't think you and Edmund - and definitely not Will - should get the hammers, anyway. They're a traditionally female weapon, from what I've seen." Edmund sighed dramatically. "So, the girls are ganging up on us now?" "What else is new?" asked Sebastian, shaking his head. "Hurry, people," said Sako. "We can have lunch when we get back down. My mom said we could make whatever we wanted as long as we didn't set the house on fire." "Fiiiiiiire," said Kenna dreamily. "I vote we keep Kenna away from the stove," said Saki. "Seconded." Kenna pouted. "I was only joking!" "Still a good idea." "Do you remember the time she set Mortimer Fremantle's hair on fire back in second year?" I asked wistfully. "And the time she accidentally made us evacuate the Charms classroom?" "And the time she blew up her cauldron in Potions that day when Rigby had to run to the hospital wing and Rigby gave the entire class detention for not noticing that her cauldron was sending up pillars of smoke?" "And the time that-" "Oh, all right, all right," said Kenna, peeved. "I'll stay away from the stove." "THANK YOU," a group of voices said fervently.
